Project proposals funded through the Working Lands Enterprise Fund require matching funds. Matching funds is a term used to describe a requirement or condition that a minimum amount of funding for your proposed project originates from either private, federal, or philanthropic funds, other than monies part of the Working Lands Enterprise Fund. Proposals that leverage other sources of capital and resources in most cases will receive preference in the selection process. Although there are numerous types of private and philanthropic funders, the individual working landscape enterprise funding needs are greater than funds available. Building relationships with potential funders, stakeholders, key customers/clientele, and community members is a key first step toward securing match, and is fundamental to the long term success and sustainability of a project.
Financing the Food System is a resource compiled in the Financing section of the VSJF’s Farm to Plate Strategic Plan and has a list of potential funders.
